During the 80s, I painted my fingernails with dots and dashes and all kinds of colors. Most of the time, each nail was a different color. I think dots were my favorite. As I grew up, I got out of the habit of painting my nails anything other than red. Around Halloween, I would paint them black, but no stripes or dots.

I feel more put together when my nails are done. Just like I feel better when I put on makeup, painting my nails is something I do for me. It's always important to do things for yourself and not just because Betsy or Lulu might be jealous when they see your new manicure.

Here are step-by-step instructions for a black and silver french manicure. I love this look because it pretty much goes with everything.

Step 1: Apply a clear base coat.

Step 2: Apply black nail polish. I put on 2 coats, but depending on the brand, it may take more or less.

Step 3: Apply a clear topcoat.

Step 4: Let dry for 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 5: Prepare to paint tips of nails.

Step 6: Take a piece of transparent tape and place on palm of hand. Press down and peel off. Do this to get rid of some of the tackiness.

Step 7: Place tape on nail tip leaving just a bit exposed. Press down lightly all the way across nail.

Step 8: Paint nail tip with silver polish.

Step 9: Remove tape as soon as you finish polishing that nail. Do not allow polish to dry before removing tape.

Step 11: If you want some sparkle, add a coat of glitter polish. I really like the chunky glitter polish because it will hide any mistake or flaw, which I usually have!

I might believe you make mistakes

I can't believe you have flaws

But to put nail polish on some women

would be a waste of some ugly sets of claws

Much love
